Less Hurdles To Solidify Your Web Page Ideas
You know of the situation. It generally happens in the least likely of moments. During the blandest, most repetitive moments of daily life that happen when your furthest away from a note pad to write the idea down on, or your no where near a phone or computer to type a note into or any way to commit yourself to the amazing idea that just randomly popped into your head. Like when your in the shower, commuting to work, doing the dishes, etc. Life just sometimes seems to put these hurdles in your way at every turn. You damned well know you have the best idea in the world, but the amount of hurdles that can get in your way can be overwhelming.
You know that the idea will make you a ton of money once you put it up on a webpage. Except there is the hurdle called WordPress, that has deflated your inspiration bubble to the point of you sitting on your couch to watch the news about the politicians you love to hate… I know you know exactly what I’m talking about. Every person who has ever dabbled with WordPress knows this curse all too well. Thankfully there’s a cure for that particular curse that I’ll illustrate to you in this article. It’s all in this in-depth guide to my favorite WordPress page builder, Elementor Pro. And trust me, I’ve used them all.
So first let me explain why I’ve made this an Elementor only review page instead of a top 10 page builders page. Well, I try to make sure that I spend my time surrounding myself with the best. In the past 14 years of my web design career, I’ve worked on so many different WordPress webpages while working in quite a few different agencies. Some of which specifically specialized in only WordPress based sites. I’ve extensively used almost all the page builders and they each have their ups and downs. But of the 3 top page builders on the market (Elementor, Divibuilder, and Beaver Builder) Elementor is just the most feature rich and intuitive of the 3. The User interface and experience of the page builder is extremely well laid out, the menu titling is straight forward and clearly explains what is where (unlike DiviBuilder menu diving and the sizing and spacing tabs), and the design of the menus are slick and up to date with modern trends (unlike Beaver Builder’s rather corporate vanilla appeal). Also the insane amount of modules to help easily build a webpage is way more than enough to get a webpage up and running in no time. Without the need for extra add-on plugins. Add-on plugins, which by the way, there are quite a few Elementor only add-ons that have such good module and feature additions. I’m quite sure you’ll want to download many of them after you get the Elementor Pro version. I’ll also throw up a quick table of the comparisons between why Elementor checks more features than DiviBuilder and Beaver Builder. Just for your quick reference.

I personally like Elementor Pro so much, that I use it for every new WordPress site I build for my clients, as well as my personally owned web pages (yes this one too). Therefore I fork out the annual agency pay for the program. Between this and Adobe Cloud, I’m more than set to conquer all my digital design dreams for a very reasonable price. If your feeling the need to get Elementor anytime throughout this article, I’ve setup quite a few links to the Elementor page builder on this website.
Download Elementor
Also here’s a great chart from Built With that shows the usage of Elementor on the internet, starting when it was first released in 2017.06 . If you look deeper into that page you’ll also get some awards that Elementor recieved, such as the 5th most popular on the Entire Internet in WordPress Plugins category.
Throughout the article I’m going to put in quite a few tips and extra tips about recommended uses as well as which add-on plugins really give Elementor a helping hand. Not that it really needs it, but it’s best to have all bases covered. So here we go…
Elementor Page Builder For Beginning WordPress Users
How To Easily Build A Website With Elementor
So after initially installing WordPress onto your server you will install Elementor Free and set up all the basic plugins, such as a SEO plugin (I recommend SEOPRESS over Yoast for it’s very cheap price, features, and ease of use), SchemaPro for rich snippets, Akismet for spam filtering and any others you may deem necessary for your site.
Once your WordPress is up and running, its as easy as going to the plugins tab in the WP dashboard and click the add new button to search for Elementor free to be able to download the free version. This is enough to get Elementor up to see the features, but I’d recommend the pro version as its extremely reasonably priced for what you get. Here’s an anchor link to below to see the features of Elementor Pro compared to the free version, and right below is a Elements List for each Free and Pro. Once you get it installed it’s pretty simple to flick through the Elementor dashboard tab, and make sure everything matches your needs.
Recommended Initial Elementor Settings
The first thing that I would recommend, to keep your Elementor site lite weight and to make sure your WordPress Theme does not clash with Elementor is to download no theme at all. Well almost, as downloading a theme is necessary for WordPress (note: not an Elementor Theme, which is a different subject than a WordPress Theme). Elementor have built a WP theme called Hello-Theme (get download here), which is essentially a blank theme that lets Elementor stay as light-weight as possible while also being extremely capable of functioning with the page builder in a seamless manner. This theme is great, as WordPress issues frequently arise from the WordPress Themes. Hello-Theme also has a child-theme on gitHub. So just goto this link here and click the Green ‘code’ button. Also, if you may want to read up on why someone would want a child theme on Elementor website, go here to get all the info on that.
A few other recommendations would be to follow the general tab and Style Tab images I put below. These will set you on a good path, and feel free to adjust if you know you’ll need something else. But its a good starting point. So after the correct tabs are clicked, you’re all set to head over to the page builder section and see what you can design.
Main Elementor Page Editor Menu
This is the main editor screen, which pops up to the left side as a side bar menu. All the edits you can make take place in this section, but you can also edit text in-pine in the design portion on the right side of the page, as shown in the image. This section has three main tabs to select, which are Content, Style, and Advanced. Each of the 3 tabs have 3many sub editor tabs, depending on the element you have selected in the center main design editor.
So there are 3 main tabs with various sections for each element you place onto the center page builder. You start the editing with the Edit Section Menu as a left side bar on the page. On this section there is a Layout Tab, a Style Tab, and an Advanced Tab. Let’s use the example of the first element or widget, that you’d drop onto the page… a row to put the smaller pieces into. For a row you have the Layout Tab with controls of the row width, overflow, and Height as well as a Structure dropdown with a visual layout of the row. Next there is a Style Tab to add a background, background overlay, border, Top and Bottom Shape Dividers and Typography for the row. Each one of these has a plethora of sliders and fields to fill to edit your row to whatever you may need. Then Last of all there is the advanced tab, for all you css IDs and classes, margins and Padding etc. You also get Motion effects, responsive on/off switches, Attributes input fields and a custom css fieldworker. Remember though that some of these like the Custom CSS are featured only in the Pro version of Elementor. You can check the table Free Vs. Pro Table below for reference.
This is just the row Element, without any of the other elements. There are a ton of other elements to add, but if I broke down every one, this article would never end.
At the very bottom of the Edit Section we also get the Settings Icon Bar with 5 icons and a button with an arrow switch.

The first Icon is a settings cog which lest you deal with the page title, featured image, page background styles, and any custom page css (Elementor Pro version only) you may want to add. Next is the right bar navigator’s on/off switch. The revisions icon for a current sessions undo/redo feature that’s standard to WordPress. Then comes a responsive Icon to switch between desktop, tablet, and mobile views. The widths for each device are also changeable in the WordPress Dashboard section. The last icon before the Green Publish button is the usual WordPress preview icon, to see how the page looks outside of the Elementor Editor, in a normal browser page. As with any WordPress preview button, it auto updates when the Elementor Editor page is saved. Last on the list is the 3 tabbed button which gives you the options to Publish/Update (switches from Publish to Update when published), Save Page As A Template, or Save Draft. Pretty self explanatory titling, if I don’t say so myself.
If you’re using other page builders, you’ll quickly notice how the UI is much easier to understand and find what you’re looking to do than the competition. Bravo to the Elementor team for making the efforts and updates that have made this application easy to understand, yet deep enough for the coders to dive into as well.
Elementor Widgets Or Elements

This is the bread and butter of Elementor. It’s basically all the pieces that you’d design a site with. Whether it’s a button element, a text element, or an image element. Of course there are a ton more, of you take a look at the lists we made. The Pro version of Elementor gets a lot more than what the free version lets you use, so I’d recommend going that route if you want a true power house of element options.
Just for claritys sake, Elementor has named what most people call a widget an element. Appropriately named for the application, if I dont say so myself.
As you can see from the animated gif, there are plenty of different elements to us on your site. Everything from Google Maps Elements to Lottie Animations (one of my personal faves). You have everything covered here. All the regular elements that every page builder is here of course, such as image carousels, images, galleries, icon sets, all kinds of forms (with many integrations for certain programs), block quotes, video, and more. Also many features come as standards to the editor, such as popups and light boxes, which can be automatically assigned in the images or designed in the Pro version with HTML. These Pop Ups have full editing capabilities that rival many of the seperate plugins designed with only the pop-up feature. Ultimately Elementor is considered to be a fully integrated one stop plugin, so theres not much you will need to install if you have the pro version.

The Elementor Right Navigator Sidebar
Now this is section is such a great and helpful addition that makes accessing, seeing, and understanding how your sections, or divs, relate to each other. Child and parent relation is clearly understood with a glance.
It’s displayed as a bar that can be toggled on or off, moved anywhere on the screen, and or be clicked into the right side of the browser window at full height. Inside the bar, each row or column and it’s contained elements are shown in vertical order as displayed on the webpage. Rows and columns contain elements, so they have a drop down arrow to show their child elements. Each element in the doc can be titled for quick understand of what that element is. So if you have 3 buttons you can individually title each one, to quickly recognize which is which. From this nav all the Elements can be grabbed, deleted, duplicated, and rearranged as you see fit. Way easier than grabbing the element on the top of a webpage and having to drag it all the way to the bottom from the actually page. Especially if the destination is 10 screen heights below the visible screen, which I’ve done all too many times in Divibuilder. Also a new addition to the right nav bar, is a side colored bar on elements that have been assigned custom css, motion effects, or absolute or fixed positioning in the css, which makes it easier to find on the hierarchy when the element is visually out of sync with the stacking order of the div it’s coded into. Also these may be clicked to directly open the left Nav bars appropriate editing tab and section. Very nice.
Best Features Of Elementor
Elementor leaves no shortcode
All the sections in Elementor thankfully use no short code. So if you remove the plugin, all the pages degrade seamlessly, and fall into the correct html header and paragraph tags. This feature in itself is very graceful as well as non-binding. It automatically gives you a sense of trust for the company. They help you out, even when you exit and deactivate the plugin. Very friendly and helpful of them.
Elementor's Responsive Toggle
A great feature of the Elementor interface is a responsive toggle which is always present in the Left Edit Bars lower settings section. When you click on this button it will change your view to see how the design will look on desktop, tablet, and mobile. This same toggle button appears anywhere in the edit menu where a setting may be set differently for the 3 devices. Some settings in the edit bar are not capable of using this, as only 1 setting may be chosen across all screen widths. But most of them are capable of being editable. This is a common feature that all page builders have, and so far they all share a common issue. The problem is that iPad Pro width is sometimes skewed with some sections being taken from the width of a desktop and other sections being the width taken from the iPad. This gets rather fidgety to have to deal with this issue, so I wish there was a iPad Pro responsive toggle in the responsive settings. I know I could insert a media query into the code, but it sort of defeats the purpose of having toggles. Also this requires a you know how to code a fourth media query in CSS.
Elementor Templates
(More Templates Available with Pro)
While some people like to spend the extra time to build an site from the ground up, adjusting every little piece of the site as needed, other people like to quickly finish projects for jobs and to meet heavy deadline specific tasks. Either way, Elementor has you covered. The free version gives you some, and the Pro version gives you more. With either Elementor Free or Pro, you are given enough options to build a site in a quick amount of time. The template do tend to be either simple block sections (such as hero sections, CTA sections, etc) or full page sections (such as blog, e-commerce etc.).
The cool thing about the templates, is that you can save template pages and blocks, that you can load up into pages in the future and edit to your hearts desire. For example, if your doing an e-commerce page, and want to save a template for a product, that you’ll use many times in the future, all you have to do is save the templates design on the first page, then load it up on a fresh page and change out the images and text descriptions. Easy as that. Also there’s global template saving capabilities. So if you have a styled Global Blue ‘Buy Now’ button that you use on every page of a 100 page site, all you have to do to change it’s color to Red and text to ‘Purchase’ and every copy of the button across the website will change according to the styling of the global template. Very convenient.

Elementor's Integrations List (Pro Only)
The list of integrations that the AWeber, MailChimp, Drip, ActiveCampaign, ConvertKit, HubSpot, Zapier, GetResponse, MailerLite, MailPoet, Automizy, WooCommerce, Yoast, ACF, Toolset, PODS, Slack, Discord, Facebook SDK, YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, SoundCloud, Google Maps, Adobe Fonts, Google Fonts, Font Awesome 5, Font Awesome PRO, Custom Icons Libraries, and reCAPTCHA.
This list keeps expanding with the constant updates, but realistically at this point in time, it’s the best integrations list so far for a page builder. They have all fields covered for marketing tools. Email, firms, fonts, maps, social, and seo optimization integrations.

Need Help From The Elementor Team?
So when you may run into an issue with Elementor where you may need help from the resource center, you may run into a bit of an issue as the help centers not the best in the world, but for the price of page builders there’s not much a person should expect. With good phone and chat servicing centers, the cost of the software will go up about 3 to 4 times the price it currently is. So for me, I prefer the cheaper cost and just going to GitHub forums to get the latest info on new updates and issue that I may need help with. But if you need to be manually directed by email on issues, the service is fine. But its good to keep in mind that all page builders in this price range are of equal consistency and have this kind of service. Therefore you’re not going to get a better page builder help service in this price range.
The Elementor Theme Builder Update
During the time of this writing I had written a negative list point about Elementor about their theme editor. After I had finished the article, there was an update which required me to come back and update the list point to a positive one, as the update fixed it and cured the issue. Fortunately, the Elementor team frequently have questionnaires and follow their GitHub account, so they try to keep track of and fix the issues that users are having with the application. In my 3 year ownership of the Elementor Pro version, I cannot count the updates that have fixed issues I’ve had and posted about on forums. So if you see something in the program that you have issues with, it’s very likely to be fixed if you can find a forum on the issue at hand. This is a huge plus for an application.
The new Theme editor fixed the issues of the complex and cumbersome Theme editor from before, that always seemed to have coding that never ended up doing what I anticipated it would. It was a uiux nightmare experience, that often lead me down a dumbfound path of no return. Also this theme editor was only accessed from the WordPress dashboard, whereas now, its accessed through the builder itself.
It’s accessed through the Settings panel, and when clicked, will take you to a new page to choose which Theme you would like to edit. The theme sections consist of
Header, Footer, WooCommerce Products, WooCommerce Archives, Single Page, Single Post, Posts Archive, Search Page, and a 404 page. Everything you’ll need to design your own theme from the ground up. Exactly how you want it. Depending on the Theme Type you have selected in the editor, you will see the conditions that you can assign to call the theme type onto a particular page. Also you can see what instances you have assigned the theme to. So these help you see what you need before you even have to double click on the Theme and start editing. Super convenient and useful.
From there you can have default themes to assign to each page of your website. So if you need a different legal disclosure on some you can build multiple footers, or other theme types, to assign to that particular set of pages.
The theme editor with the 3.0 update gives you a smooth user interface, as everyone has come to expect from this program. It’s extremely intuitive, and fixed all the problems with the theme editor that I had previously had.
In-Line Text Editing
There’s the usual standard WordPress text editor that most people are probably familiar with, or direct editing on the text in the actual design editor. This way you can see what the text looks like, without having to goto the sub editor WordPress text field. It’s basically two different ways to do the same thing, but that’s another example of the well built user interface. Simple to get the job done regardless of how you approach the path.
Elementor Pricing
And the Elementor Pricing table
There are 3 different tiers of Elementor Pro. They’re all set up with the same version of Elementor Pro, but the only difference with the different version is how many sites you can use the annual subscription of Elementor on. The 3 tiers are:
Tier
|
Annual Fee
|
Number Of Sites
|

|
Annual Renewal Fee

|
At the end an annual fee, if the license is not renewed (paid for in full price), then you will not be able to download the updates from that point, or get support from Elementor. Also the pro templates blocks will no longer be accessible in the templates and blocks section. But if you’ve already loaded one into a page and are using it, it will work fine. Also all of the pro widgets from the last version you were able to download, will be usable, but you will not be able to update, so the latest widgets and feature will be inaccessible.
At initial purchase there is a 30-day money back guarantee, as well as a 25% renewal discount to active users (as shown above in the Annual Renewal Fee Column).
Elementor Add-Ons
RECOMMENDED ELEMENTOR ADD-ON PLUGINS
There are quite a few plugins that are available to Elementor in free and charged price ranges. Some of which have both a free version and a beefed up paid version. Some are very simple but essential tools that will give you a boost in performance, while others may help a whole range of variable functions, that will help you attain certain functions from many different widgets that accomplish different goals.
1. FAQ Schema
Top of the list because its easy to describe, yet essential in it’s purpose to accomplish an easy yet essential task. FAQ Schema for Elementor is a very exceptional and free plugin that will allow you to add any type of frequently asked question schema into any section of you blog. This is great for SEO perks and will help you out greatly if you intend to have you blog rank in Google SERPs.
2. SEOpress

If you’re in need of an SEO plugin, do yourself a favor and dump the idea of using Yoast. Thats coming from the unfortunate experience of having worked for companies that pay the ridiculous fees involved in making that plugin slightly useful. There are now a ton of plugins that do the same thing or better for a fraction of the Yoast Cost for unlimited sites. My personal favorite being SEOpress. This is the most extensive plugin, and it is integrated very well into the Elementor editor. Most of the features show up inside the editor, but a few are only accessible through the WordPress dashboard back end editor. Anyways, this plugin is one my must have recommendations and it only $39 annually for install on unlimited sites. Perfect for a web designer with many clients. There’s also a free version with some features unavailable. Also this plugin has a 4.9 plugin rating on the WordPress site, and for good reason.

Elementor Final Thoughts
So at the end of the day, of all the WordPress page builders that I have used, I definitely think that currently Elementor is the top dog on the market. I work on multiple websites at a full time position all week, and then I get off and work on various clients website, or on my own. So I’ve gotten around to using just about all the web design applications on mac or windows.
I’ve used Elementor to quickly put together large sites, with my Pro account and charged the clients for the software I’ve installed with my license. It’s paid for itself about 20 times already with just that fee I charge. This site and all the contract jobs where I created a website from scratch, I’ve used Elementor.
For simple designing without the need to know coding and complex css or html, you can get a strong portfolio site or e-commerce site up and running in no time. Add to that the amazing pricing for what you get, the massive amount of information and free tutorials online, and the fact that most WordPress sites are designed on Elementor (if you got the skill, then you can find the work), then its a no-brainer to get this application. I guarantee you’ll be happy that you did.
